Memory Loss

“Not every problem needs a solution”– I’m a bit surprised upon reading this article. Since, I normally thought in almost every problem there’s always a simple solution. Just before I began judging, I’m seeking to understand what the author of this article is trying to impart. Kent McManigal said,
“Not every problem can be fixed, or even should be fixed. The biggest flaw in the Serenity Prayer? is the line ?…Courage to change the things I can…? because not everything that can be changed should be changed. Real wisdom accepts that.”
I remembered my dad before as he was a chain smoker as well as an alcoholic person. Immediately after they’re out from work, he’d be with his friends and prefer spending the evening along with them rather than going home to be with his own family, This became our family problem back when I was young.
At first, I don’t see why he’s like that to us; why he could afford not to be with his family and decide to spend more time with his friends. But, I noticed something between my dad and mother, they lack communication with each other. I suppose I knew already just what the issue is. I ran out of thoughts on how to make my parents okay with each other. I’m thinking that all families have problems they are going through.
I can’t blame my dad because it is already his attitude that he really do not talk a lot. You can’t really find out what is going on in his thoughts. I needed to understand what is going on from the both of them however I guess I can’t find any solution for this. I did pray to God and recited the serenity prayer every night since I did memorize it back when I was in elementary.
I do think my prayers did work. Prayer of Serenity can definitely change the lives of people. My father changed his daily routine; after work, he’d immediately go home and spend the evening along with us. My parents already talk to one another and that we did enjoy our togetherness. Kent McManigal tells us something important about life. There are problems that you are unable to fix with prayers alone. Just like what I shared about my dad. If I prayed very hard for him to correct his bad attitude but he will not change his life or he’d not have the will to modify his attitude, your prayers would be nothing; thus saying, he would not change in any way.
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
